‘Ötztal’ – Ski traverse
The ‚Ötz’ valley Alps region is the most glaciated region of the east Alps. Over a distance of 50 km, around the central section of the ‘Venter’ and ‘Gurgler’ valley, the glaciation is continuous. Reason enough to pack your rucksack and to come and enjoy the awesome views from the highest summits of Tyrol, ‘Wildspitze’ and ‘Weisskugel’ peak. |

Today we ascend the first 3.000 m peak. Via the mellow ‘Niederjochferner’ glacier we reach the summit of ‘Similaun’ peak. The last 100 vertical meters we have to travel on foot. We stay at the cosy ‘Similaun’ hut (3.019 m). Hiking time approx. 6 hours, ascent 1.100 m, descent 600 m.

Day 4:
Early in the morning we start our ascent to the famous ‘Weisskugel’ mountain. The last few hundred meters take us through blocky terrain to the summit. A more than 10 km ski run takes us down to the ‘Hochjoch’ Hospiz (2.412 m). Hiking time approx. 8 hours, ascent 1.100 m, descent 1.500 m.
Day 5:
Past the ‘Brandenburger’ hut (3.272 m) we ascend to the summit of the ‘Fluchtkogel’ (3.500 m). Early afternoon we reach the ‘Vernagt’ hut (2.755 m), giving us a chance to rest up for the last big day. Hiking time approx. 6 hours, ascent 1.100 m, descent 750 m.

The highest summit of Tyrol, the ‘Wildspitze’ peak (3.772 m), will be the highlight of the week. Via the ‘Brochkogel’ Col we reach the summit. The last few meters we have to negotiate on crampons. A beautiful run takes us down from the summit to ‘Vent’, where we started from. Arrival at about 3:00 p.m. Hiking time approx. 8 hours, ascent 900 m, descent 1.300 m. |
